SIV Social developement Strategy:

"15-Minute Cities In Africa"

SIV will deploy the “15-minute city concept”, by building small scale communities in or near city centers. The 15-minute concept brings together positive environmental, social, youth and gender impacts by reducing transport times and costs, increasing access to economic opportunities and social services, and enhancing health and safety, especially for women and girls.

The 15 minute concept is urban planning concept in which most daily necessities and services, such as work, shopping, education, healthcare, and leisure can be easily reached by a 15-minute walk or bike ride.

The concept is based on four main principles:

 I. Ecology for a green and sustainable city;
II.
Proximity, or the ability to live with reduced distance to social facilities (children and women);
III.
Solidarity, and creating links between people, and;
IV.
Participation, where citizens and specially women should be actively involved in the planning process.

The intersection of gender lens and the 15-minute city concept presents a very exciting potential for cities to adopt more inclusive and equitable environments.
