The Social Infra Ventures (SIV) team, Ana Vilarrubi, Daniel FONT and Frederik VAN PALLANDT attended the 9th Global Affordable Housing Conference in Washington DC this week, organised by The World Bank.
The team was delighted to connect with numerous passionate advocates for affordable housing.
They were also thrilled to reconnect with existing partners and discuss innovative strategies to promote climate resilience, environmental sustainability, and gender responsiveness in affordable housing projects across Africa!
This experience further reinforced our team's conviction that a blend of for sale and for rent units is the only viable solution for creating sustainable communities.
Social Infra Ventures , by incorporating both options, can ensure affordability for a broader range of individuals. It is my hope that banks, governments, policymakers, investors, development finance institutions (DFIs), developers, and other stakeholders recognize the reality that homeownership is unattainable for approximately 90% of the African population.
The potential of the affordable rental market in Africa is immense, yet largely unknown due to insufficient data.It is imperative that we acknowledge this untapped market and take proactive steps to address its unique challenges.
